Is it possible to replace a front wheel speed sensor on 2003 GMC 2500HD?

The front wheel speed sensor is sending an ABS code and lighting the ABS light on my truck. Is it possible to just change the sensor as opposed to changing the whole wheel bearing hub assembly? I was thinking since I just changed the other sides Hub assembly, if I could take that sensor out and use it in place of the bad sensor, since that sensor was still good?

Yes you can just change the sensor and it is the same on the other side.When you are done,the ABS system will do a self check and the light may go out right away,though some years,you had to drive the vehicle above 15mph. to get the light out. The code will be in history in the EBCM for at least 40 drive cycles.If the EBCM see's no faults during the 40 drive cycles,it will erase history.

Sometimes the manual locking hubs can make noise. My warns were making more of a clicking sound and I look the lock ring off the outside of the outer axle and this took care of the noise. That ring is not really necessary because, for there to be a problem the axle would have to slide out a full 6 inches to disengage the hub, if this happens you have something far worse to worry about. A bearing noise will be a rough or %26quot;roar%26quot; noise at approx. 30mph and up. It may seem to go away at higher speeds, but it is usually masked by wind and tire noise.

it would be a good idea to take your hub apart, see how much dirt and debree is inside, when you lock the hub in it moves internaly, and may be grinding up dirt.
to check a wheel beering jack the vehicle up so the tire is off the ground put a jack stand under vehicle for safety grab the tire one hand on top one hand on the bottom rock the tire if you have play in the wheel then you need to check out wheel bearing(don't rock tire side to side).Take apart hub inspect the hub assembly also inspect the axle

I am pretty much a diy guy for everything. I slid my car into a curb a long time ago and replaced a lot of parts. Unfortunately my wheel bearing was off, and caused the front passenger wheel to go completely bald down to wires. I, like a fool, decided maybe it would be good to have a %26quot;professional%26quot; that a friend referred me to handle this one. I like doing my own work so that I know what all I did, and I can usually trace it back. This guy was very unprofessional, called me angrily saying he needed more money because apparently the half-shaft for an automatic is different than a manual (my car). He said that would need to be replaced, and a spindle (which should've came with it, as it came from a junkyard). Anyways, I continued this foolish game. When it was all finally done, he brought the car to me (the shop was just down the street), and I drove him home. I noticed the wheel was making a rubbing noise, and he said it was nothing, and it should go away. I drove it around for a while, but I have a different car that I had been driving instead (the a/c works). Months later, I decided to drive the saturn around and it is still making this rubbing noise. One of the motor mounts had been rotted, and I replaced it, which helped a lot, but the wheel is still making this rubbing noise. I am pretty sure it is not rubbing against anything, but it is hard to tell because the %26quot;professional%26quot; put the tire back on with an impact wrench and I can't get the wheel off. Any ideas? If it is the wheel bearing...how would I replace it? I believe they are sealed bearings, but I'm not sure if it needs to be pressed out or if I could hammer it out and a new one in.

if your going to change the bearing, i,ll tell you the way i do it. i pound the old bearing out and i put the new bearing in the freezer and when i,am ready for it, it will slip right in. steel will shrink when they are cold and expand when it warms up. buy the bearing, put it in the freezer for about a day or 2, pound the bearing out, take the new bearing and put it in a ice chest and when your ready for it, it should slip right in where the old 1 came out. i did that several times.

My car, an automatic, didn't seem to change into the 5th gear. I took it to Aamco this morning to have the transmission checked out, and I fully expected they would tell me I need to have my transmission repaired or replaced.



Instead, they said it's the wheel bearing and that my transmission is just fine. My questions are:

how do you know your bearings are bad..........they may just need re-greased-----unless you ruined a spindle......that is not cheap..........the bearings by them self's are around 40.00$ for each wheel.....make sure you get 2 or 3 estimates...and opinions
